Between Two Shores: Brazil to Bali with Andrew Serrano

Andrew Serrano, a surfer from Brazil, has carved something of a rhythm between two worlds - the vibrant coastlines of South America and the wave-rich islands of Indonesia. Moving between these places has shaped not only his surfing, but also his outlook on life: a balance of freedom, respect for nature, and simplicity day to day. A longtime friend of Deus, Andrew’s story is one of craft, culture, and staying true to the passion that first drew him to the ocean.

You split your time between Brazil and Indonesia, two places that live and breathe surf. How has moving between these worlds shaped your style in and out of the water?

Being between Brazil and Indonesia allows me to find balance in life, the freedom in riding, the respect for nature and culture in my craft, enjoying simplicity day by day. This multicultural balance helps to shape myself, surfing and creativity all while being able to stay open to growing as a person.

What originally drew you into the Deus universe, and what’s kept you close to the brand all these years?

I was drawn in to the spirit, Deus is not only a brand it’s a lifestyle, good friends and stories. It felt like a place where I could be my authentic self and stay open to new ideas! What always keeps me close is that feeling stays. It’s not only what we do but how we live!

From your perspective, what makes a surfboard a classic?

A classic surfboard in my opinion is more than a shape, it’s a feeling! A classic board holds stories, it has a soul that combines a mix of the past and present with timeless lines, honest craft and simple beauty. Classic boards never try too hard; they have a special feeling that just feels right!

How do you keep your approach to surfing feeling authentic, no matter where you are in the world?

No matter where I am, I always surf for the same reason! To feel free and alive! I try to stay real by keeping it simple, respecting the ocean, people, riding with joy, flow and gratitude. That’s how I practice keeping my surfing honest.

Whether it’s a board, a bike or a moment - what’s something you keep coming back to, time and time again?

Always passion.
